WILLIAM E. CARNEY _______
William E. Carney was born in Canada, April 4, 1845, and came to Bay City in 1849. In 1862 he engaged with Thomas Watkins in lumber inspecting, and continued in the business until 1864, when he went to Detroit and enlisted in the Fifteenth Michigan Infantry. He was promoted to corporal and received his discharge, November 16, 1865, at Little Rock, Ark. He returned to Bay City and again engaged in the lumber business, which he still continues. He was married in 1868 to Laura Merritt, of Ingram County, and has two children. His residence is on Adams Street, between Sixth and Seventh Streets.

William's parents were Thomas & Mary (Roach) Carney. He died March 24, 1889, burial at Pine Ridge Cemetery in family plot.
