HENRY HAYDEN.

Representative from Bay county in 1855, was born in Essex, Conn., Feb. 8, 1819, and was educated at Hill's academy in that town. He settled in Portsmouth, now a part of Bay City, in 1855, and was a salt and lumber manufacturer for fourteen years, and for several years supervisor. He returned to Essex, Conn., in 1869, where he lived a retired life. Died Sept. 18, 1885.

Hon. Henry Hayden, member elect from the counties of Bay, Ogemaw, &c, then came forward, and after having subscribed and sworn to the constitutional oath, took his seat as a member of the Legislature of the State of Michigan.

Hon. H. Hayden introduced a bill to amend sections 27 ad 32 of an act entitled to incorporated the village of Bay City, approved February 9, 1859.

House bill No. 167, entitled a bill to provide for the collection of taxes assessed upon property in the village of Bay City, was read a third time and passed, a majority of the all the members electing voting therefor, by yeas and nays. Title agreed to.

On a motion of Mr. Henry Hayden, by a vote of two-thirds of all the members elect, the bill was order to take immediate effect.

Note – Serving in the House at the same time was Henry A. Hayden from Jackson County.

The well was sunk in 1859 – depth, 1,000 feet. Messrs, Hayden & Co. established these works and carried on the business until 1868, when A. Stevens & Co. purchased them. The mode of manufacture is kettles, and the concern has a block of 56, with a season capacity of 8,000 barrels. Five men are employed in it; fuel used is hard wood. (A. Stevens & Co. also listed as Salt Works, with brine being furnished by Hayden Salt Co.'s well.
