Elm Lawn was founded in 1896 as Bay City's first park-like cemetery. Many of the city's industrial barons are buried there. Names like Avis (rental cars), Bousfield (woodenware), Defoe (shipbuilding), Boutell (tug fleet), Wheeler (shipbuilder), Shearer (architect), and many more.
